Although traveler’s checks are accepted by many leading banks, hotels, ryokans (Japanese inns) and stores in major cities, most Japanese tend to use cash. Once you leave the major metropolitan areas, you will find it much more difficult to pay with traveler's checks. Post offices can also issue traveler’s checks in US, Canadian, or Australian dollars, pounds sterling, euros, or yen. The fee for this is 1%. |
